Bill Taylor
Memoriam
1921 - 2007

Mr. W.R. Taylor was the last Chairman of Beaver Regional Waste Management Authority and the first Chairman of the newly formed Beaver Regional Waste Management Services Commission (BRWMSC), that was established February 1992. Mr. Taylor had the vision to understand municipal solid waste would ultimately become a valuable resource and as a retired businessman he understood completely that expansion meant survival. Through his vision and tenacity the Commission was led through a massive approval process that ultimately saw the Ryley Sanitary Landfill Class II become a remarkable success story. Mr. Taylor entrenched the following principles, the foundation upon which the Commission rests today:Local employment, Environmentally sound, and Regional Benefit
The staff and successive Commissioners will always hold him in the highest regard.
 

Bill Glover

Bill Glover served as Commission Chairman from October 1995 to October 1997. Bill piloted through the approval of the new offices for the Commission as he was concerned that we must project an image of professionalism and proper decorum. The new offices situated in the County Building at Ryley were completely renovated and the staff moved in 1996. In October of 1995 the first loads of municipal solid waste from Edmonton were hauled into the newly constructed engineered cell at the landfill.
   
 

Elston Solberg

Born and raised on a mixed dairy farm near Ryley, Alberta. Mr. Solberg served six years as Mayor of Ryley and also as Chairman of Beaver Regional Waste Management Services Commission. Mr. Solberg holds a B.Sc (Agronomy) and M.Sc (Soil Science) from the University of Alberta and is a Research Agronomist with Alberta Agriculture. In addition to his experience as a researcher at the University of Alberta, Elston also has experience in the waste management industry, including municipal and intensive livestock operations. He has authored, co-authored, and published many research papers in a wide variety of technical and industry journals, and has contributed to numerous articles throughout the ag-media sector.Elston was responsible for developing the philosophical and pragmatic principles which the Commission operates upon to this day.

   
 

Charles McBurney

Chuck McBurney had served as the representative from Beaver County from 2001 until 2003. Chuck was an original member of the Commission, serving as Vice Chairman until October of 1992. After a nine-year hiatus Chuck had returned and was immediately appointed Chairman of the Commission and Reeve of the County. Chuck will no doubt be remembered as resolving long-standing landowner issues adjacent to the landfill.
   
 

Laurie Weatherill

Laurie was appointed to the Commission in October of 1998, representing the Town of Tofield. Laurie was appointed chairman of the Commission in November 2004 until November 2006. As a semi-retired businessman Laurie was able to monitor the pulse of the community and keep the Commission apprised of emerging sentiments.

 

Ivan Hrabec


Ivan Hrabec was appointed to the board in November of 2004. He became Chairman of the Commission in 2006 to 2009. Ivan is an active member of the business community in Holden and is employed with Alta Gas. The Commission always appreciated the business perspective that Ivan brought to the board. Ivan and his family are long time residents of the County and the Village of Holden.
